Using the Calendar

The Calendar provides a visual way to manage and schedule both tasks and reservations. You can quickly see upcoming tasks, check whether a property is booked, and adjust timelines by dragging events directly on the calendar.

Overview

  • Built with FullCalendar: Our calendar allows for drag-and-drop event management, multiple view modes (Month, Week, Day), and clickable events.
  • Property Filter:
    • By default, the calendar displays all tasks across all properties (with no reservations shown).
    • To display reservations alongside tasks, you must select a specific property from the dropdown.
    • Only one property can be selected at a time if you want to see its reservations.

Calendar Features

  1. Default View: Month

    • The calendar starts in Month view.
    • You can switch to Week or Day view in the upper-right corner of the calendar.
  2. Tasks vs. Reservations

    • All Properties selected = Tasks only (for all properties).
    • Single Property selected (e.g., “Beach House #4”) = Tasks + Reservations for that property.
  3. Interacting with Tasks

    • Click a Task to open the Task Form, where you can edit details such as start/end dates, assignees, status, etc.
    • Drag & Drop a Task to a new date or time to reschedule. This immediately updates the task’s scheduled time.
    • Resize a Task (if the task’s time range is shown, such as in the Week/Day view) by dragging its edges to change the start/end time.
  4. Interacting with Reservations

    • Click a Reservation to view its details in a read-only mode. Reservations can’t be edited directly from the Calendar.
  5. Property Dropdown

    • Located at the top of the page.
    • Select “All Properties” to see tasks for every property (no reservations).
    • Select a specific property to see that property’s tasks and reservations.
  6. On-the-Fly Updates

    • When you move (drag) or resize a task on the calendar, it automatically updates the task’s start/end times.
    • The system may prompt you to confirm the date/time change, and changes are saved immediately.

How to Use the Calendar

  1. Open the Calendar Page: By default, you’re in the monthly view showing tasks for all properties.
  2. Choose a Property:
    • If you want to see reservations for a specific property, pick that property from the dropdown.
    • The calendar will reload, showing tasks and reservations for that property.
  3. Switch Views (Month/Week/Day):
    • Use the FullCalendar controls (usually at the top-right of the calendar).
    • In Month view, you see events by day blocks.
    • In Week or Day view, events appear in time slots, enabling resizing to adjust durations.
  4. Drag/Drop a Task to reschedule.
    • Clicking and dragging a task to a new date/time changes its scheduled start time.
    • In Week/Day view, you can also stretch/shrink a task to change its end time.
  5. Click a Task to open the Task Form.
    • The form will appear below the calendar (in the #task-form-container section).
    • Update the task’s details (e.g., assignees, status, notes, images) and click Save.
  6. Click a Reservation (if you have chosen a specific property) to open a read-only view of reservation details in the #reservation-container.

Notes & Tips

  • Permissions: You’ll only be able to edit tasks for which you have the correct permissions (e.g., property managers or assigned users).
  • Saving Changes: Be sure to save your changes in the Task Form after editing. Changes made by dragging tasks on the calendar are saved automatically.
  • Colors/Styling: Reservations have different colors, depending on the channel configuration, so you can differentiate different channels at a glance.
  • Mobile View: On smaller screens, dragging might be limited.
